Memphis

Hockadoo! I'm too amped to be able to perform in shows that are on my bucket list this season. First up i'll be rehearsing with the cast of Memphis at The Henegar Center in Melbourne, Fl. The show opens on the 2nd of October and continues to run until the 17th.

Wherever you are in the world you do NOT want to miss out on this Brevard premiere, so I would purchase tickets and make travel arrangements now if necessary! I'll singing the role of Wailin' Joe and joining the ensemble to tell this earthshaking, underground tale of a time not too long ago.

Memphis is a musical by David Bryan (music and lyrics) and Joe DiPietro (lyrics and book). It is loosely based on Memphis disc jockey Dewey Phillips, one of the first white DJs to play black music in the 1950s. It played on Broadway from October 19, 2009 to August 5, 2012. This production won four 2010 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
After, I get to play Seaweed in Hairspray! More on that soon.  Just super excited to have the opportunity to be in such great shows! 2015 will end with a BANG and 2016, i'm sure, will be no different ;)

The Joey Coco Project

PARENTAL ADVISORY: Explicit Content

I find it strange sometimes that as time passes there is a feeling that one should behave in a certain way. I am lucky enough to have a respectable image but with that comes the assumption that I should behave in a particular way at all times. This is something I find tricky to do.

Throughout my life I have always been ultra sensible (well most of the time), I'm always on time no matter how bad I feel, I've always worked hard and never really given my parents anything to scream at me for. But then there are times when the need to rebel or just not be sensible kicks in!  Now don’t get me wrong I won’t go and get a tattoo across my face or anything too radical but, Joey Coco is an alter ego who allows me a bit more freedom than I normally would have. Now I know some people will shake their heads and say ‘what on earth is he doing and why??’

However I have decided this is my plan to just be me and do something just for me. Music is therapeutic, writing is like vacation, and hip hop is the best way to release a lot of anger. He symbolizes to me that I need to follow my own path and not be confined by other people’s views. I need to have the confidence to believe in myself and not just portray that confidence outside.
We'll see what happens. The Prelude out now. Black Paint coming soon.

Proceed With Caution

"And there's [Frankie], played by Keenan Carver, who has a B.A. in Drama, is attractive and extremely watchable on stage. In fact, he's downright dreamy." -CJ Mathias, Brevard Culture www.brevardculture.com
